The owner's side
Manage rentals in the Bookings section of the admin. Rental rules and rate panels appear alongside the existing booking controls.
This page covers those screens, front desk bookings and troubleshooting unavailable dates.
Before you begin
- Manage Bookings and Setup (
kahunacart.bookings.manage) to change anything. Reading iskahunacart.bookings.view. Rentals declares no permissions of its own. - At least one configured property. See Getting started.
Edit stay rules
Open the property under Bookings → Services and press Set it up. Set How it is booked to Nightly stay to display the rental rules.
| Group | What is in it |
|---|---|
| Arriving and leaving | Check-in time (default 16:00), check-out time (10:00), stay lengths and allowed arrival and departure weekdays. |
| Who it sleeps | The ceiling on guests, how many the nightly rate covers, and what each guest over that costs per night |
| Fees | The cleaning fee, once a stay, and the damage deposit, which is a stated amount the store never charges |
| Filling the gaps | The orphan-night rule, on out of the box |
| Paying | The deposit percentage, how many days before arrival the balance falls due, and the cancellation policy as steps |
| What to tell them before they arrive | Private instructions included only in the arrival email. |
Press Save once to store both the booking rule and rental rules in the same transaction. Invalid combinations are rejected with an explanation.
The It sleeps value is saved with these fields using Bookings’ party-size setting.
See A stay’s rules, Guests and fees and Taking payment for field explanations.
The Rates tab
The Rates tab appears beside Troubleshoot when a nightly property exists. Dates without matching bands use the product price, so a property with one year-round rate needs no bands.
Use the arrows to choose a year. The timeline shows:
- A month ruler across the year.
- The effective nightly price after band priorities are applied.
- A lane for each band, with reorder arrows. Lower bands take priority where dates overlap.
Use What would a stay cost? below the timeline to enter dates and a guest count, then press Price it. The quote shows nightly rate groups, extra guests, cleaning, the total and the amount due today. It uses the storefront pricing engine and creates no hold or booking. Unavailable dates show the same refusal reason as the guest picker.
See Rates and seasons for band priorities and percentage calculations.
Review the Stays overview
The overview adds a Stays view for stores with day-based bookings. It shows one month with a row per property and a bar per stay.
Each bar runs from midday on arrival to midday on departure. Stays sharing a changeover date meet in the middle of that column. A booking within one date uses the second half of its column.
This view is read-only. Click a bar to open its booking record.
"How full" measures booked dates against available dates. A property with four units contributes four available units for each date. Opening-hour percentages are not used for stays.
Troubleshoot a date range
Bookings → Troubleshoot includes unavailable dates and their reasons in its availability results.
For a property, enter From and To to check a date range. Results show each date’s availability and reason. Dates follow the shop’s stored values, not the browser’s timezone.
The command line answers the same table:
bin/plugin kahunacart-rentals nights beach-house --explain
The front desk
On /desk, Today adds arrival and departure lists:
| List | What is in it |
|---|---|
| Arriving | Everybody whose stay starts today, with whether they are checked in yet |
| Leaving | Everybody whose stay ends today |
The front desk Stays view shows 2 weeks or a Month. Half-day bar ends distinguish same-day changeovers. Tap a bar to open the booking.
Stays lists resources booked by the day and bookings longer than a day. It is hidden when no services use day-based bookings. Use the admin to move a stay; this view does not support dragging.
Day and week views hide properties by default. Select Properties or a property name to include them. Resource-type and location filters appear when there is more than one choice, and the tablet remembers the selection.
For stays, the primary action changes from Check in to Check out. Appointment bookings use Done for completion.
The rental booking mode provides these labels and details. Disabling Rentals removes that mode-specific presentation. See The front desk.
Book a stay at the front desk
Open /desk, tap New booking and choose the property. Enter arrival, departure and guest count.
The quote shows dates, check-in and check-out times, each rate band, extra guests, cleaning and the total. It uses the same pricing engine as the guest page. If the dates are unavailable, it explains why, for example 3 nights minimum, Arrivals on Saturdays or That would leave nights nobody could book.
Desk bookings do not take payment or schedule balance collection. They have no order, deposit, balance deadline or balance reminder. Collect the full amount separately. The desk shows To collect $1,714.00 using the saved quote, even if the rate card later changes.
To collect a deposit online and schedule the balance, use the property’s storefront booking page, which creates an order. See Taking payment.
Reschedule stays from the admin, where you can review the price. The front desk supports cancellation but does not offer Move for stays.
Diagnose unavailable nights
Check unavailable dates with Troubleshoot, bin/plugin kahunacart-rentals nights <product> --explain, or the guest calendar. All use the same availability engine.
Start here
If every date is unavailable, check the property’s hours. Assign a schedule with 00:00 to 24:00 on all seven days. A property without applicable hours is closed and reports Closed.
Only near-term dates are unavailable. Check the minimum notice period.
Availability ends after a future date. Check the booking window; the seeded property allows bookings 540 days ahead.
An otherwise free date is refused. Check whether the proposed stay creates an unbookable gap.
Availability checks in order
When several checks fail, the first check in this order supplies the reason. For example, minimum stay is checked before allowed arrival days.
| Reason | What it says | What it means |
|---|---|---|
min_nights |
Shorter than the shortest stay here | Fewer nights than the property's minimum, or than the minimum on the band the stay starts in |
max_nights |
Longer than the longest stay here | More nights than the property allows. Set the longest stay to 0 for no limit |
arrival_day |
Stays do not start on that day | The arrival is not one of the property's arrival days, or not one the band asks for |
departure_day |
Stays do not end on that day | The departure is not one of the property's departure days. Bands do not override this one |
guests |
More guests than this sleeps | More than the property's It sleeps number |
gap |
That would leave nights nobody could book | The orphan-night rule. The sentence names the night that would be stranded |
past |
That date has been and gone | The night has already started. Not the same as Too soon |
notice |
Too soon | Inside the notice you ask for |

Too far ahead | Past the booking window |
time-off |
Time off | You are away that day |
blackout |
Closed | The property is shut: no hours, a closed date, or no property behind the rule at all |
external |
Busy on another calendar | An outside calendar has it. A named feed says which: Busy on Airbnb |

Booked | Somebody has it |
For multi-resource pools, reasons identify the pool, such as Sea-view rooms: booked. Single-resource pools display the reason without a pool label.
gap: an unbookable gap
The proposed stay would leave fewer consecutive free nights than the minimum stay permits. The message identifies an affected night:
That would leave nights nobody could book — nobody could book the night of Thu 8 Oct.
Try extending the requested stay to include the gap. To allow short gaps, disable Do not take a stay that would leave a gap too short to sell on the property.
past and notice checks
Dates that have already started use That date has been and gone rather than the notice-period message. Waiting longer cannot make these dates available.
Departures on the first day of a closure
The first closure date permits departures for guests already staying. Dates within the closure are blocked. This is expected behaviour.
external: an imported calendar block
Imported blocks display the feed label, such as Busy on Airbnb. If the message only says Busy on another calendar, add a label under Block time from other calendars.
Imported calendars block every unit on a property record. A separately listed room needs its own record and feed links. See Channel sync.
