No offline mode
The till needs a connection to your shop. Every price, every stock check, every payment and every receipt number comes from the shop, so the till can't sell on its own. There is no offline mode in this release.
When the connection drops, the till tells you plainly. It sells nothing it can't record, and it never pretends a sale went through.
What you see
- An OFFLINE pill appears along the top of the screen as soon as a request can't reach the shop. It goes away when a request gets through again.
- A sale that can't reach the shop says so. The message reads Can't reach the shop. That didn't go through. Try again when you're back online. Nothing is queued to be sent later.
- Opening the till with no connection shows Can't reach the shop right now. Check the connection and reload. with a Reload button.
What is safe
The sale in progress lives on the shop's server, not in the tablet. When the connection comes back, press the button again. The till uses the same request key for the retry, so a payment that did reach the shop before the connection dropped is not taken twice. A retried charge records one sale, a retried payment one payment, a retried return one return and a retried cash in or out one cash movement. A retry that finds the first try stopped half way finishes it, and one that finds it done answers with what it did.
If the connection drops while a card is on the reader, the reader still finishes the payment on its own. Once the till is back online it asks for the result by itself and shows the payment as checking until it has one. If it still can't tell, press Check again. See Taking payment.
While you wait
- Check the wifi, or move the tablet closer to the router. A phone's mobile data works as a backup if the shop's connection is down.
- Keep a paper pad at the counter for a bad day. Write down what was sold and ring it up when the connection is back. The shift's report is only as good as what is rung up, so make sure it all gets entered before you close.
Why there isn't one
Selling without the shop would mean the till guessing at prices and stock, and two tablets could sell the last item. If your shop has poor reception, fixing the connection is the first thing to do.
