Rentals

Rentals adds nightly stays to Bookings, so guests can book accommodation through your KahunaCart shop. This chapter explains how to configure properties and manage stays.

Rentals requires Bookings. It uses Bookings for property records, availability, orders, customer messages and the front desk.

Create a property as a product. Add its name, price, picture, description and category. Set its Type to Booking, then set How it is booked to Nightly stay in its booking rule. This adds a date-range picker to the product page. See Products.

The product price is the nightly rate. Rate bands can override it for selected dates or apply a percentage of that price. See Rates and seasons.

Set the terms on each property. Its booking rule holds arrival and departure times, stay limits, fees, deposit terms and cancellation rules. The plugin settings provide three message timing values you can leave at their defaults. See Settings.

Before you begin

  • KahunaCart Bookings 1.0.0 or later, installed, enabled and configured.
  • KahunaCart 1.2.11 or later for rental pricing support.
  • Grav 2.1.0 or later, with the API plugin.
  • Manage Bookings and Setup (kahunacart.bookings.manage) and kahunacart.products.manage permissions for setup.
  • A scheduled worker running bin/plugin kahunacart work to send receipts, arrival notes, balance reminders and thank-you emails. See CLI.

GPM checks these version requirements during installation. Verify them yourself when installing by copying the plugin folder.

Rentals requires Bookings. On the Rentals store page, choose Rentals only for $149 if you already own Bookings, or Bookings + Rentals for $249. Rentals only requires a signed-in licence covering Bookings or Bookings in the same cart. The store checks this at add-to-cart and checkout:

Who What the store says
Not signed in "Rentals only is for stores that already have Bookings. Sign in to the account that holds your KahunaCart license, or choose Bookings + Rentals." Sign in is a link, and it brings you back to the Rentals page afterwards.
Signed in, with a licence that doesn't cover Bookings "Your license doesn't include Bookings yet. Choose Bookings + Rentals to get both."

If the cart contains Bookings and Rentals only separately, it offers the Bookings + Rentals bundle at a $49 saving.

For bed and breakfasts Four identical doubles as one record, board basis as an option, and the gap rule off.

Permissions

Rentals uses Bookings permissions. It adds no separate permission keys.

Permission What it allows
kahunacart.bookings.view Read the rule and the rate card and change nothing.
kahunacart.bookings.manage Every change: the stay rules, the rate card, the fees and anything done to a stay.
kahunacart.bookings.desk The front desk, where arrivals and departures show up.

Bookings view permission allows reading rental rates. Manage permission allows editing them.

Limitations

  • Card holds for damage deposits. The amount appears on the listing, quote, receipt and arrival email. Collect it separately. See Guests and fees.
  • Recurring weekend-only minimums. Minimum stays apply year-round or within a dated rate band. You cannot set a different minimum for every Friday and Saturday.
  • Per-unit channel imports. An imported busy period blocks every unit on its property record. Give a room its own record and calendar links when it is listed separately on another site. See Channel sync.
  • Front desk payment processing. You can book a stay at the desk and review its quote, but it creates no order, deposit, balance deadline or balance reminder. Collect the To collect amount separately. A stay booked online that still owes its balance can be paid at the till with the Point of Sale add-on. Use the property’s storefront page for an online deposit. See The owner’s side.
  • Channel-manager APIs. Sync uses periodically refreshed iCal feeds, with no direct account-level integration. See Channel sync for the resulting delay and conflict risks.
