KahunaCart charges tax in one of two ways, and picks between them for you:
| Tax zones set up | What happens |
|---|---|
| None | One flat percentage on every order |
| One or more | The customer's address picks a zone, and that zone's rates apply |
Creating your first tax zone switches the flat rate off.
Charge one flat rate
- Open KahunaCart → Settings and the Commerce tab.
- Under Tax, set Flat Tax Rate (%).
- Set Flat Tax Label to the name shown on receipts, such as
VAT. - Click Save.
Charge different rates by location
- Open KahunaCart → Setup → Tax and click New zone.
- Enter a Name and a Priority. Lower numbers are matched first.
- Fill in Countries, Regions and Postcodes, comma separated. An empty field matches anything.
- Click Add rate for every rate the zone needs, then click Create zone.
Important
Saving a zone replaces its rates with whatever the form holds. Add every rate before you save.
Tax still appears with the flat rate at 0
You have tax zones. Once one zone exists, the flat rate is not read at all. Delete the zones, or set their rates to zero.
Tax is not charged at all
- The address has no country. Without one, no zone matches.
- No zone matches the address. Regions match on the name, not a code.
- The zone's rates are for a different tax class than the products in the cart.
Note
Selling through Polar? Polar is a merchant of record and handles tax itself. Orders paid through it are charged without your local tax.
